Rajasthan, situated in the western part of India, is the largest state of India and holds a very exceptional place at its southern division known as Sirohi District. The district lies between the parallel of 24°20′ and 25°17′ North Latitude and 72°16′ and 73°10′ East Longitude. It has a geographical area of 5136 sq. km which is about 1.52% of the total area of the Rajasthan state. After Dungarpur and Banswara, the Sirohi district comes as the 3rd smallest district in the state. It is edged by Pali district in the north-east, Jalore in the west, Banaskantha district in the south which comes in Gujarat, and Udaipur district in the east.

Sirohi is further divided into hills and mountain ranges. The headquarters of the district in Sirohi Rajasthan lies in its heart that is the Sirohi town. It was ranked first amongst the thirty-three districts of Rajasthan in the year 2014 for its cleanliness and hygiene under the Indian government scheme of “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”.

Sirohi History
Sirohi in Rajasthan was taken under the Bombay government from 5 January 1949 to 25 January 1950. After around one year only, on 25 January 1950, the portion of Delwara tehsil was associated with Bombay when the former state got a partition with Abu Road tehsil and the rest portion got merged with Rajasthan. Presently, the Sirohi district involves five tehsils – Abu Road, Sheoganj, Reodar, Pindwara, and Sirohi.
Having numerous shrines and temples, Sirohi is also known to be called “Dev Nagari” since old times. It had been ruled by “Chauhan Deora rulers” in ancient times and, therefore, it has also happened to get popular as the manufacturers of double-edged swords.
Sirohi history has fascinated many tourists all over the world. One story of the evolution of the name Sirohi marks from the area where it is situated. The area has hills on the western slope which are known as “Siranwa” and from this name, the name Sirohi has emerged. “Sir” to be the head of the desert “Rohi”. Another story says that the name has been derived from the word “Sword” as in the past times the area had been ruled by many great rulers. Sirohi is still known Nationwide for Sirohi Talwar (Sword).
Yet another story for the name is – Sirohi = Sir + Uhi. The saying goes like even if the head has to be detached the self-respect will not be sacrificed. Earlier, the Rajput rulers could die for self-respect.

Maharao Sahib of Sirohi since 1998, married HH Maharani Kunverba Saheb, third daughter of HH Maharaja Jam Sahib Shri Digvijay Singh Ji Ranjit Singh Ji of Nawanagar, and has an issue, one son Maharaj Kumar Shri Indreshwar Singhji Sahib, educated at Rajkumar College, Rajkot Married 27th April 2002, Yuvrani Shri Aditi Kumari Sahiba, daughter of Maharaja Shri Bhupendra Vijay Singh of Mokhampura in Kushalgarh state.
Maharao RAGHUVEER SINGH (born 1943) was awarded the Padma Shri civilian honour by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, for his contribution to the field of History. His primary contribution is in bringing out the fact that “India was at the fore of all scientific, social and philosophical fields” in ancient times.

Son of Rao Shobha Ji, Shreshthmal, the son of Rao Shobha Ji, founder of the present city Sirohi had laid the foundation stone of the Sirohi Fort on the second day (Dwitiya) of Vaishakh which is around 1425 (A.D.). The area is also known as “Arbudh Pradesh” (Arbundachal = Arbud+ Anchal) in puranic tradition.

This temple dates back to the Rajput age of the 9th century. It is devoted to the 23rd Tirthankar of Jains, Lord Parshavnath. It has a platform that is similar to the one of Ranakpur. Earlier it was being demolished by Mahmood Begda of Gujarat in the 13th century but then had been reconstructed and rehabilitated in the 15th century. It is known to be the oldest monument of Rajasthan made up of marbles. It has been portrayed in world encyclopedia art. - Bamanvad Ji temple
This temple has been devoted to the 24th Tirthankar of Jains, Lord Mahavir. It was constructed by his brother Nandi Vardhan. It has the carving on the granite rock which represents the famous story of Karn Kilan where the nails were pounded into the ears of Mahavir Swami. - Karodi Dhwaj temple
As the name suggests, the temple is devoted to Lord sun who showers millions of rays called Kotidhwaj. It was constructed by the Hoons who were said to be the worshippers of the Sun. You will find here the divine idols of Mahishasur Mardani, Sheshai Vishnu, Kuber, and Ganapati. The temple is located on the horseshoe center point of Abu hill. On the foothills of the site, you can discover a beautiful dam as well. - Sharneshwar Ji temple
This temple is devoted to Lord Shiva. It is established on the western slope of Siranwa hills. Presently, the temple is operated by Sirohi Devasthanam. Due to its related design and structure with Parmar rulers, it is thought to be built during the Parmar Dynasty rule. You will find here the idols of Lord Vishnu and a plate consisting of 108 Shiva Lingas. This temple is known as the fort temple due to the courtyards encompassing it, one of which carries the Burj and Chaukis. - Sarvadham temple
This is a unique temple that is devoted to all religions of the globe. It constitutes the idols of numerous gods installed everywhere around the temple. It is situated at the headquarters of Sirohi and is 1 km away from the circuit house of Sirohi. Rudraksha, Kalpvriksh, Kunj, Harsingar, Belpatra trees are planted which hold a holy significance. Sirohi Rivers and Lake
The major rivers in Sirohi district are Jawai, Sukhadi, Khari, Bodi, Krishnavati, Kapalganga, and Banas.
Sirohi restrains a beautiful lake in its arm, known as the Nakki Lake, Popularly known as Sirohi Lake. It is in the range of Aravalli and part of Mount Abu that is the stunning hill station. The Nakki lake is approx a half of a mile lengthwise and around a quarter of a mile widthwise. It has a depth of 20 to 30 ft that leads it to the dam in the west. You can do boating in the lake. The sport horse riding is also available around the lake. Near the lake, you will also find the two ancient spots on the hills – Maharaja Jaipur Palace and Raghunath Temple. You will get to walk upon the amazing road around the lake that is said to be called Toad Road situated on a hill. It appears to hop into the lake. Only when the road is observed from the side of the hill rock which faces the lake.
The beautiful fact of this holy lake is that after the demise of Mahatma Gandhi Ji, his ashes were descended in it. And then the construction of Gandhi Ghat took place.

Mattiyar (Stiff Clay) – Black Coloured soil found in Pindwara and parts of Sheoganj block. This soil is more suitable for growing Wheat, Barley, and Cotton.
Gorat or Bhuri (Sandy) – Light brown colored soil found in Reodar, some parts of Sirohi & Sheoganj tehsil. It is fertile and suitable for growing Bajra.
Reti (Sand) – It occurs in river beds and is suitable for growing Tomatoes And Watermelon.
Kankari (Hard & Stony mixed with sand) – It occurs around the base of the hills.
